ACTIONS FOCUSED ON SUSTAINABILITY OF THE FOREST

SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT IS OUR COMMITMENT

For a family company dedicated to wood since 1903, the sustainability of our resources and the care of the environment are of vital importance. This was one of the main reasons to start the business in one of the areas that most protect and understand forests.

We have always heard that there is now more forest in the United States than in the time of the arrival of Europeans. But apart from this comment, we know from the studies of the Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA) that:
• In the last fifty years the forest mass has doubled
• Between 2007 and 2012 it grew by 124 million m3, considering the natural death of trees
• Forests are maturing and currently wood is cut closer to its maximum size, which if not used, would die.

The management of the use of American Hardwoods is an important chapter for sustainability. The cutting is not done in the whole forest; typically, the most developed logs are pulled out leaving the youngest ones for the future. This is a great help for the natural regeneration of forests.

These values and principles are intrinsic to the Boss Lumber philosophy. The group is part of a chain of custody that controls the origin of the raw material, ensuring that the forest is being respected.

Shrinkage is minimized and is used to produce energy for our kilns, this is an important part of our commitment to the future.

BENEFITS OF USING AMERICAN WOOD

LEGAL ORIGIN

There are many countries that demand a proof of origin for the lumber entering through their borders. In many areas this requirement is difficult to comply with, but because the USA is considered a zone of low risk for illegal logging, it is easy to meet the requirements of the most demanding countries.

The American Hardwood Export Council has created tools that help demonstrate the legal origin of American hardwood.
